This case takes the April 19th Movement in Nicaragua and examines corruption from a Principal – Agent Problem perspective. The history of Daniel Ortega’s consolidation of power are discussed through the creation of ALBANISA, the capture of Venezuelan state aid, and the visible elements of corruption. The focus is to identify the non-violent, short-term steps necessary to reversing the state capture and repatrimonialization of the Nicaraguan state institutions. A teaching note provides relevant political theory.
