This case describes the rise of Thelma Aldana from janitor to Supreme Court Justice and Attorney General in Guatemala. As leader of the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Aldana is faced with the ultimate task of having to investigate the President and the Vice-president of the country for their involvement in a corruption scheme known as "La Línea", in which hundreds of millions of dollars are appropriated by government officials and members of the private sector by avoiding import taxes. The case allows students to discuss the issues related to the type of leadership displayed by Mrs. Aldana, the legacy for future generations, and the role of CICIG in the fight against corruption.
